THE INITIATOR OF THE PROJECT
My name is Ingrid, I am Belgian at the origin of the creation of the Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge .
5 years ago, during a safari in the North, i stayed a week in the lake natron conservation area, I fell under the spell of this region, wild, untamed.
The rift valley, the Ol Donyoi Lengai volcano, encircles this wide desert plain.
Only the Maasai can survive there.
Fascinated by their culture, I was touched by the humility of these men and women who live in utter destitution, by the harshness of their lives, whose only pride is their animals.
I began to dream of spending a moment of my life there. And to give myself the means to stay there, I decided to have a small house built on a piece of land granted by the village.
In the morning, I had the leisure to observe the herds of giraffes, which slowly coming back from the river, left their place, in this infinite landscape, to herds of sacred zebus.
In single file, the animals which, in the dust raised by their hooves, disappear in the immensity of the plain in search of the little grass that resists on these lands scorched by the sun.
During my long stays, I learned to interact with my Maasai neighbors, the women came to fetch water, the curious children came to visit me, the warriors wondered what this mama muzungu was doing. (White)
I have learned to love them. Through exchanged looks and smiles, of time spent together, they adopted me.
Little by little, the idea came to me to create a camp, and then, why not a lodge!
Fair trade, which could attract more tourists, create jobs and offer work to local guides, while promoting their culture.
Maasai giraffe came to fruition, I was ready to embark on a new dream.
Having the privilege of being integrated into the community and of having gained their trust, I threw myself heart and soul into this new immersion project within families of the region and thus succeed in creating links between the different cultures. .
I want to share with other muzungu, the happiness of being part of the clan. A few days, in simplicity, sharing a precarious way of life, to experience living in the present moment, in the heart of the majestic beauty of the Maasai lands.
